Hi, my name is Melissa, 24 years old and a down-to-earth Frisian who lost her heart to the Randstad.
From an early age I have always competed at a national level. Later on, supportive strength training was added and I found this very interesting from the first moment. At one point I exchanged swimming for Obstacle Course Racing. A completely different sport, in which running, agility and strength are discussed. After a number of years of running “normal” races, including a European and World Championship, I ended up in the Ultra obstalce runs: 50+ km with obstacles and preferably a lot of vertical meters. I train for this by combining all aspects of the sport. Running, which I can just do outside myself, agility, by occasionally following survival training and strength, by CrossFitting! I find the mental aspect of these extreme races extremely fascinating. So how you can push yourself through your lactic acid barrier, or just step up a gear when you can make a difference. Mental hardness is a strong addition to almost any sport, which you can eventually take with you in daily life. I wanted to help other people with this, because how good do you feel when you can persevere when you actually want to give up ?! Being fit isn’t just physical, it’s mental too! So I became a running, bootcamp and obstacle course trainer and soon I will also add CrossFit trainer to this list!
